Background

The theme of the Freshman Engineering Design project is Solar Sunflowers that is a shell outside the building to collect the sunshine and transfer to solar energy.
There are several buildings that can collect the sun energy all over the world. The most famous one is the London City Hall.

Because of London’s electricity and gas consumption contributes 33 million tones of CO2. So they must therefore change the composition of its energy supply if it is to deliver any significant reductions in carbon emissions. To achieve that, London using renewable energy sources such as solar power – a clean and green alternative to the National Grid. A solar photovoltaic (PV) system converts light directly into electricity via the roof with no waste and no emissions.

Another solar building is in Beijing, China. This building is a program for environmental protection.  It is over 1000 square meters panels over the building. To minimum CO2 emissions, the architects opted for gas engines with electric generators for supplemental energy. Recaptured heat is used for hot water, winter heating and combined with absorption chillers for cooling in summer.
